Group Circle
The teacher introduces cognitive concepts that will be reinforced throughout the day. The theme and letter for the week are introduced by a story read by the teacher as well as a variety of group activities. The “Letter People” are used to help children learn the sounds and shapes of each letter. Students change the calendar and chart the weather. Children sing songs and engage in creative movement dances. Children also have an opportunity to take turns sharing with the group and bringing in a show and tell item.
Independent Choice
Children are given art and writing activities, as well as a choice of a variety of learning centers. Each day, the teachers offer new learning centers for the children to choose from such as the book center, dramatic play, sensory table, small motor manipulatives, math activities, floor toys, the science table, and more. Children participate in imaginative play and learn valuable social skills such as taking turns, sharing, and language development.
Art Activity
The teacher assists small groups of children in the daily art project which is related to the weekly theme. Art activities use a wide variety of materials and are designed to foster multiple skills such as fine motor skills, creativity, working independently, language development and following directions.
Writing Table
These activities reinforce the letter of the week, including the formation and sounds of the letter. In addition, children work on number concepts such as doing dot to dots, number values and beginning addition concepts.
Small Group Activities
Teachers guide students in cognitive activities such as a number and letter recognition, writing, counting, sorting, making comparisons, following patterns, spatial concepts and more.
Snack
Provided by the preschool. Good manners, taking turns, and other skills are taught. We happily accommodate children with food allergies.
Outside Time
Children work on their large motor skills in activities such as climbing, sliding, playing in the sand, running, throwing and catching balls, riding tricycles, using hula hoops, playing with a parachute, etc.
Closing Circle
The teacher reads a story and the children sing a closing song.
Chapel
Once a week, the school’s director presents a brief, age-appropriate Bible story and lesson. The children also sing songs and say a prayer.
Journal Writing
Each week, the children work on their journals. Children draw pictures and either write in their journals using phonetic spelling or dictate to their teacher. These journals make wonderful keepsakes.
Parent Involvement
Parents and families are invited to share in special events such as the Teddy Bear Picnic, Fall Festival, Christmas Chapel performances, Moments with Mom, Dad’s Brunch and Spring Carnival.
